Callan Associates is seeking a senior level professional with a minimum of ten years of investment consulting or related experience to fill the position of Private Equity Consultant within Callan's Private Equity Research group. The Private Equity Consultant will be responsible for providing a spectrum of private equity investment consulting services to existing clients, be involved in practice development, and will participate in new business initiatives. The position is located in Callan's San Francisco office and will report to the Manager of Callan's Private Equity Research group.
Responsibilities and Objectives Act as the lead consultant for fund sponsor relationships through a combination of: – Servicing existing Callan clients; and – Participating in new business initiatives. Proactively identify and address client needs in a thoughtful and timely manner. Work with other Callan consultants and applicable oversight committees to direct and deliver client work encompassing: – Strategic Planning: Draft and review investment policies, construct strategic and tactical plans, evaluate manager structure, and perform and review commitment pacing analyses; – Plan Implementation: Conduct manager research efforts and lead manager due diligence engagements, including searches and evaluations; – Performance Evaluation: Monitor existing client portfolios, review and present quarterly performance measurement reports and participate in report augmentation over time; – Research and Education: Provide thorough and thoughtful research-backed responses to client requests and develop and present topical research and education internally and externally; Support Private Equity Research activities by covering multiple market segments and maintain thorough research coverage of key strategies. Actively participate in new business generation activities, including responding to request for proposals and representing Callan's private equity services and the firm at finals presentations Actively participate and add value to the Callan Institute through writing research papers, workshop delivery and educational seminar participation. Proactively identify and drive forward service enhancements to benefit the firm as a whole. Represent Callan well at industry events, manager conferences, etc. Guide, motivate and mentor colleagues. Encourage excellence and increased knowledge. Foster the team environment and support Callan's culture and philosophy.
Job Skills and Characteristics Excellent sales, presentation and communication skills, both written and verbal, for existing client work and in support of new business initiatives. Strong writing skills are imperative in order to create investment memorandums, research papers, periodicals, and custom client communication and education materials. Strong analytical capabilities with a keen focus on detail. An understanding of, and facility with, private equity monitoring, reporting, administration, and other back office functions is considered a plus. Exhibits proactivity, resourcefulness, enthusiasm for improvement and is highly focused on production. Proficiency to work independently, as well as a member of a broader team. Willingness to travel. Strong knowledge of MS Office applications and willingness to learn Callan proprietary software applications and other relevant systems.
Education Bachelor's Degree required; Graduate Degree preferred CFA or CAIA preferred Minimum of ten years industry experience working with one or more of the alternative asset classes, preferably private equity.
