A Houston-based commodities trading house seek an experienced power data scientist /quant analyst to assist in the nodal power trading space.
Power trading and nodal / congestion trading in particular involves analysis of a huge amount data, and the need for Big Data management and manipulation is increasing. This established power-focused trading firm seek a new data scientist to develop new power pricing models, and optimize existing power trading portfolios.
This is an opportunity for someone with at least a Masters in Statistics, Math, or Economics, with commercial experience in the energy trading space to move to a private trading shop with a higher PNL payout. You should have a background with experience on a trading floor supporting power traders in an analytical or quantitative manner. In particular, power trading and FTR trading experience, with knowledge across as many of the core US power markets as possible: ERCOT, MISO, PJM, NYISO/NEPOOL, SPP, CAISO. Being a quant and statistics-heavy role, you should be comfortable analyzing data to develop, build and optimize models independently, thus it is expected that you will possess a strong toolkit of IT and modeling skills, with experience using: VBA, Matlab, R, Python, C#, and data visualization tools such as Tableau. We are still looking for commercial types however, who possess the character to help develop new pricing and trading strategies and can handle pressures on the trading floor.
