Leading Asset Manager seeks to recruit a senior leader to serve as Head of Domain Services with a responsibility for driving continuous improvement for Data across the Investments organization. Reporting to the Head of Global Business Solutions Investments (GBSI) Technology, the successful candidate will leverage technology to bring about meaningful improvements to the firm's domain data and domain entity services globally. S/he will evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the existing technology approach, and implement changes where necessary in order to increase the overall effectiveness of the investments organization.
The Head of Domain Services will be responsible for application development strategies, processes, tools and system enhancements that will strengthen the competitive differentiation. S/he will also take advantage of opportunities for collaboration across units and create a scalable, best-practice oriented solution engineering and deliver function for the firm.
Technology Strategy: Working closely with senior leaders across the global investment & technology teams, this position will require a candidate with ability to understand and synthesize key business strategies at the firm's highest levels. This will require that the Head of Domain Services to understand and synthesize key strategies relating to all divisions, and translate those priorities into a comprehensive data strategy for investments. The Head of Domain Services will also be expected to ensure that the investments team maximizes the utility of its technology investments, and resulting data it collects - both internally, to improve investment and other decision making, and externally, to improve client reporting and service generally. Lastly, the Head of Domain Services will ensure his/her strategy & roadmap are consistent with and furthering that of Investments Technology.
Relationship Management: Forge relationships with portfolio managers, analysts, quants, and other investment professionals, to create and sustain effective partnerships with peers and key stakeholders. Will influence and partner effectively to ensure buy-in and support for business and technology strategies and roadmaps.
Application Development: The Head of Domain Services will develop a strong, client-focused relationship with company's front-office teams, as well as, on occasion, other functional leaders. This communication will necessarily be two ways - firstly seeking to understand fully the needs and strategy of the business and functions, and then to ensure that business and functional leaders understand the potential costs, and limitations of technology. Within the application development area, the Head of Domain Services will be responsible for sourcing and/or developing and implementing the various applications necessary to support business activities. Quality assurance is a key aspect of the delivery of software applications and candidates will need to demonstrate experience building a culture of quality and risk management.
Resource Management and Commercial Accountability: Management of a growing technology platform as the firm expands its footprint internationally. The Head of Domain Services will be responsible for conducting performance appraisals and staff remuneration, as well as guiding the training and development of staff. S/he will provide vision, direction, and mentoring for associates in a wide-range of positions, and will build a high-performing, cohesive team of committed, passionate professionals over time. S/he will have responsibility for preparing, syndicating, and controlling the full IT budget for Domain Services. This represents a growing proportion of the overall cost base for GBSI and so its effective management is critical to managing investor and firm resources wisely.
Thought Leadership and Innovation: The Head of Domain Services will be expected to be a thought leader from a data and technology perspective, able to consult on market trends, and will be capable of inspiring the team to improve performance. S/he will perform research on new data and technology products and services and recommend solutions involving the pragmatic adoption of new technologies, advising on how they deliver business value and their suitability to the current and future dynamics of the particular business group. The new Head of Domain Services will be expected to have experience and expertise advising on the adoption of such technologies as big data and other analytical tools within a portfolio construction and/or investment management context.

Enabling the Investments team to be seen as setting the gold standard for technology.
The successful candidate will be an experienced front-office capital markets technologist, ideally combining experience on the buy-side and sell-side. S/he will have led sizeable technology teams, ideally geographically dispersed around the world, have a good understanding of the main financial asset classes and a variety of data strategies, and be able to point to a track record of driving meaningful improvements in a trading, portfolio management, and/or research environment. S/he will have managed a varied portfolio of efforts ranging from strategic to tactical in nature leveraging both in-sourced & out-sourced solution providers. Culturally, the role would be well-suited to an individual who is thoughtful, low-ego, and collaborative, yet who has passion, drive, and ambition.
BS or BA degree in a Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics or related fields
10+ years of industry experience in data management and stewardship
5+ years of direct management experience
Hands-on experience as an Engineering Manager managing a team of 10+ engineers with growth potential up to 40 resources
Ability to demonstrate strong communication, risk management, interpersonal and organizational skills
Ability to work well and exert influence as a member of a highly integrated team composed of both technical and non-technical associates
Strong Plus if you have experience in one or more of the following: SQL, R, Python, Java development
5+ years in a data-related role within financial services
Demonstrated technical aptitude and strong analytical skills with proven results
Ability to understand technical subjects and emerging technologies, and their relevance to the marketplace
